Callosa de Segura is a large town which is very Spanish and has all the amenities that you would need from bars and restaurants to supermarkets, local markets and shops. The large historical town of Orihuela is located just a few minutes drive away which was once the capital of the area from Murcia to Alicante. Orihuela is practically untouched by tourism and has streets lined with orange trees with shady squares having ornate palacios and crumbling facades. The elegant churches and buildings bear witness to the town's rich heritage as an affluent university and cathedral city.
The beaches of the area lie approximately 30km away but the Orihuela district encompasses 15km of coastline including the fantastic beaches of Campoamor, La Zenia, Mil Palmeras and Torre de la Horadada. The large modern seaside town of Torrevieja is within easy reach and has a large population of British ex-pats. There are 5 major Golf Courses within a radius of only 15km - "Real Club de Golf Campoamor", "Las Ramblas", "Club de Golf Villamartin", "La Finca" and "La Marquesa".
There are two airports available for the Callosa de Segura area, a very large airport at Alicante (located 20 minutes drive away) and a smaller airport at Murcia, San Javier, which will soon be undergoing a substantial expansion (located 45 minutes drive away).
Callosa de Segura benefits from excellent road networks (in particular the toll motorway A7) linking it with big cities such as Elche, Alicante, Murcia and Cartegena. Similarly, these cities can be reached by the very good rail links near to Callosa de Segura.
